Day 2 - West Virginia to Kentucky - 314 miles

Up early to get a head start on the day.

Leaving Caring Acres Farm was VERY foggy, but we made it off the mountain with minimal issues. But Daisy and Bentley, Carl's dogs, were there to say goodbye as they were to greet us when we arrived yesterday.

We had to change where we were going to stay tonight, because of flood waters taking out the RV place in Frankfort. I called to see if we could check in after 5--just in case-- and a recorded message said they were closed.

So we found a KOA that had a couple spaces available. Phew!

It would have been nice to know ahead of time, but the Frankfort place was wiped out entirely by the risen river. So glad I called. It's completely understandable that they didn't even know who was coming or when. I spoke with them since and they are back up and running, albeit no laundry or other facilities back online yet.

Charging:

Stop 1

Since we boondocked the night before, we could not charge in our spot, so we charged in town near the farm.

Behind the Holiday Inn Express, Lewisburg, WV

Tesla Supercharger

"Voted Coolest Town in U.S.A." We had breakfast in the trailer. I made an omelette the night before. All I had to do is pour it into the hot pan. With the new induction cooktop, it was quick and easy.

I was so busy cooking, I didn't get the stats--sorry.

Stop 2

54 miles to (It was mountainous and hot)

5481 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Mt. Hope, West Virginia

Tesla Supercharger in the Industrial area of town, 2 were not working including the head-in stall so we had to unhook.

$0.34/kWh

Made a chopped salad with salmon on top with dolmas (stuffed fig leaves).

50% to 100% we took 35 minutes, but most of that was going from 95% to 100% and finishing lunch

Stop 3

Arrived at Lexington, Kentucky, Meijer parking lot exactly 2 hours later with 19%

$.33/kWh

Poorly maintained and 3 stalls out of order

No Head-ins, but we could pull up on the end and not have to unhook.

Went from 19% to 95% took 20 mins

The drive through the blue ridge was amazing. So lush. With lots of stone alongside the highway. We drove through low clouds and mist, but did not lose visibility climbing pretty high. Not sure how high because we lost the altimeter *somewhere* in the car.

The KOA in Louisville South is really nice. When we were there, something was blooming and making the entire park smell like orange blossoms. It was so hot that no one came out of their RVs until evening when the park came alive. The pool area was quite active

You'll notice we stay at KOA's alot. AND it's not just for the discount (we're members). They are almost always well maintained, friendly, & welcoming.

When you are traveling to a place you don't know, it's nice to have some idea what to expect. You have that with KOAs.
